1. What do you mean by "service" businesses? What is a service business?
My focus on "service" businesses is really about firms who sell a service, expertise, or a process, or who have a high degree of service as part of what the customer pays for. This is different to what is often called "customer service" - where the customer isn't usually expecting to pay for the customer service. Sometimes the overlap between the two can be a bit hazy, depending upon the business.

The main difference is that when people choose to buy a product, they normally evaluate the product on easy to measure criteria. But for most service businesses, the customer cannot make easy judgements. This causes extra tension and requires the service provider to gain a better understanding of what their clients really need, and create more trust. That's where I help.

2.  What happens at the initial interview?
I use the initial meeting (in person or via phone) to gain a clear understanding of your situation so I can assess how best to help you. During this meeting I will discuss your business, listen to what you would like to achieve, and explain how I can work with you. Plus we have the opportunity to get to know one another. There is no charge for this meeting - even if I give you some pointers on what to do next. There's no pressure, no hard-sell.

3. I'm not located in Brisbane. Can I still use Marketing Nous?
Yes, most certainly. Clients often interact with me on an 'electronic' basis when they are not in Brisbane. You will still receive the same free initial consultation and great personal service, we just use the phone, email and fax a bit more than we usually would. Time zones are not usually a problem.

4. Why haven't I heard of Marketing Nous before?
Where have you been! Seriously though... Marketing Nous was launched in 1999 to help business people find the most cost effective way to grow their business and develop new ideas. I have gradually expanded awareness of Marketing Nous over this time.

5. I have used consultants before and didn't learn anything new. Why is Marketing Nous different?
Because I make sure you get progress. When I start a project it is based upon a clear understanding of what you want to achieve. And I'm not afraid to ask the hard questions about "why" things are done they way they are. We both want to see improvements.

6. Which industries does Marketing Nous work in?
My experience has shown that good marketing practices transcend industry boundaries, so I can be of value to nearly all service oriented businesses. I focus on the factors that are important for successfully marketing a service business - and this covers a wide range of service sectors. A critical element of my expertise is the flexibility to assess each situation individually and apply knowledge to create the most effective outcome for you.

7. How do I know I will get results?
Because I take the time up-front to really understand what you are trying to achieve, I can give you a clear understanding of what needs to be done. But you won't be pressured into doing something you don't want to do. However, I will present a case for what I think is best. At all times I will do what I say I will do. And sometimes I will rely upon you to undertake important tasks as part of the marketing program. By working together we get the best results.

8. How do I know what I am being charged for?
All invoices from Marketing Nous contain clear explanations of the work carried out, either as part of a project or on an hourly basis. Plus, we will regularly discuss progress so you know what is happening.
